The City’s Secret Gardens

June 28, 2013

When we think of the City of London, the colour that springs to mind isn’t green – it’s grey. Grey buildings, grey roads, grey skies. But hidden amidst this concrete jungle, unbeknownst to many, is a cluster of magical inner-city gardens. A budding (sorry) new walk allows you to sample these little pockets of bliss for yourself as they reach full bloom.

Featuring modernist, memorial and monastic gardens, the City Garden walk is the brainchild of the zestful Tina Baxter, who also leads the tour. Tina is one of Unreal City Audio’s most exuberant cheerleaders, so we love her, and as a professional City of London Guide she really knows her stuff and has a Green Badge to prove it.

The next City Garden walk takes place on Sunday 7th July 2013 at 11am. It costs a mere tenner; £7.50 for concessions. Ms Baxter will meet you at the City Information Booth (EC4M 8BX) opposite St Paul’s Cathedral towards the Thames whence the walk will proceed to Greyfriars, London Wall, Guildhall and beyond. And don’t go telling everyone about these gardens. We want them to stay secret.
